Emma Watson and Ethan Hawke star in the Regression trailer
I have high hopes for Emma Watson, who I’ve been impressed with in every role since her turn as Hermione in the Harry Potter franchise. But I can’t say I’m impressed with the trailer for REGRESSION. Unfortunately, it feels too much like a standard, run of the mill thriller and I hated some of the cheap shots the trailer took (answering the phone with no one on the other line? Seriously?). In fact, this feels more like a straight to home video thriller that Hawke has become accustomed to lately, which means it’s not good enough for Watson. But check out the trailer below and see if the director of THE OTHERS can spook us once again.
The official synopsis for REGRESSION: Minnesota, 1990. Detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) investigates the case of young Angela (Emma Watson), who accuses her father, John Gray (David Dencik), of an unspeakable crime. When John unexpectedly and without recollection admits guilt, renowned psychologist Dr. Raines (David Thewlis) is brought in to help him relive his memories and what they discover unmasks a horrifying nationwide mystery. REGRESSION stars Emma Watson, Ethan Hawke, David Thewlis, David Dencik, Dale Dickey, Lothaire Bluteau and Devon Bostick. The Alejandro Amenábar directed film hits theaters on August 28th.
