Emma Watson set for Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast
There has been a live action Beauty and the Beast movie in the works for quite a while and coincidentally (or maybe not so coincidentally), Emma Watson has been attached to a couple of different versions with a couple of different studios. Originally, she was going to star in a version directed by Guillermo del Toro over at Warner Bros., but that fell through when the director left the project. She was also going to play Cinderella in Disney’s live-action adaptation, but she eventually dropped out of that one as well. But it looks like she was able to connect with Disney after all. Although I’m a little sick of these live-action interpretations of fairy tales, I like Emma Watson and it should be interesting to see what she brings to the role. I’m not so sure this will be the grand departure from Harry Potter she’s looking for, but we’ll have to see what happens. The film is set to be directed by Bill Condon (THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN) from a script by Stephen Chbosky. Chbosky directed Watson in THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER.
Posting on FaceBook, Emma Watson said: “I’m finally able to tell you… that I will be playing Belle in Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast! It was such a big part of my growing up, it almost feels surreal that I’ll get to dance to ‘Be Our Guest’ and sing ‘Something There’. My six year old self is on the ceiling – heart bursting. Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it. Emma xx” (FaceBook)
