Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez star in the first Getaway trailer

Unfortunately, you can’t make a movie about fast cars without some kind of comparison to the Fast and Furious franchise or at the very least, the Transporter franchise. Combining that with the fact that your movie has the same name of THE GETAWAY starring Steve McQueen and the remake starring Alec Baldwin and it’s hard to find too much original content in the first GETAWAY trailer. The advantage is that Ethan Hawke can actually act, so it won’t be as bad as DRIVER with The Rock, but the whole thing feels a little too familiar for my taste. Then there’s Selena Gomez, who I think is supposed to be some kind of car thief that gets mixed up in the whole thing. Granted, I don’t know a lot of car thieves, but I don’t imagine they have the perfect skin of Selena Gomez. Check out the trailer below for the film that stars Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez and Jon Voight. The Courtney Solomon and Yaron Levy directed film opens everywhere on August 30th, 2013.

Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.
