Friends With Kids starring Jon Hamm and Megan Fox coming to Blu-ray in July
Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced that the comedy FRIENDS WITH KIDS will be coming to Blu-ray on July 17, 2012. The film was written and directed by Jennifer Westfeldt (KISSING JESSICA STEIN) and includes an all-star cast of: Jennifer Westfeldt, Adam Scott, Megan Fox, Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig, Chris O’Dowd and Edward Burns. FRIENDS WITH KIDS came and went at the theater with no real fanfare, but it might do better on Blu-ray if only because people do love to see Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and Megan Fox out of their elements, at least this writer does.
The synopsis for FRIENDS WITH KIDS is as follows: “The last two singles (Westfeldt and Scott) in [a close-knit circle of friends] observe the effect that kids have had on their friends’ relationships and wonder if there’s a better way to make it work. When they decide to have a child together and date other people, their unconventional ‘experiment’ leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family, and – above all [else] – true love.” Sounds like FRIENDS WITH KIDS could be a concept that would either sink or swim. That will probably depend on whether or not you like the quirky style of Ms. Westfeldt.
I thought KISSING JESSICA STEIN was a fun film so I’ll definitely be giving FRIENDS WITH KIDS a viewing. Plus I just love Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig so FRIENDS WITH KIDS can’t be all that bad. Those two ladies have a knack for choosing good roles so I’m not too worried. I think the weakest link in the FRIENDS WITH KIDS cast may be Megan Fox, not because she’s a poor actress but just because she’s not as seasoned as the rest of this cast. Everyone else has excelled in a comedy but Ms. Fox has yet to cross that bridge.
