Gemma Arterton in The Disappearance of Alice Creed trailer

For me, the jury is still out on Gemma Arterton. Aside from her bit part in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, her first introduction to American audiences came in CLASH OF THE TITANS and then a month later in PRINCE OF PERSIA. Neither of those films showcased her acting (or anyone else’s for that matter), but the biggest problem with her roles in those films is that they were almost identical. She played the damsel in distress that guides the hero and to have two similar roles in movies released so close together is really odd for anyone. But she has her fans and her next few films are not of the “epic” variety. In THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED, she plays a young, rich girl that gets kidnapped by two guys trying to make a buck. But things go awry when she turns the tables on them.
I guess I should point out that that’s what I think happens in the film. The trailer is a little confusing because it seemingly shows her getting the upper hand, then it shows her beat up and tied down. So all we really know is that the kidnapper’s plan doesn’t go as they hoped. The film stars Gemma Arterton, Martin Compston and Eddie Marsan. J Blakeson directed the film and it doesn’t have an official wide release date yet. Watch the trailer here.
