Gemma Ward joins Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz in fourth Pirates of the Caribbean

At this point in the casting process, I think Disney should just make the blanket announcement that everyone is going to be starring in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES except Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. Because it seems like they’re the only two stars that won’t be making an appearance. Gemma Ward is the latest to sign on for the film and although she’s not a recognizable movie star, she is a recognizable super-model. She will have a small part as a mermaid and joins the incredible cast that already includes Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, Sam Claflin and Astrid Berges-Frisby. Rob Marshall will be handling directing duties this time around and the film will hit theaters on May 20th, 2011.
Even with all of these casting announcements, I still feel like they’re missing something here. I think Sparrow needs a regular “hero” (like Orlando Bloom in the first few films) to balance him out. But to be fair, all we really know right now is that Sparrow is on the hunt for the fountain of youth. So there’s still a chance they could add even more characters to the fold.
