George Clooney and Matt Damon star in the first Monuments Men trailer
The first trailer for George Clooney‘s MONUMENTS MEN has hit the web and we now know what direction he’s taking the true story. Based on the description, I thought this could go the heavy drama route or lean more towards dark comedy. From the looks of the first trailer, it seems to fall somewhere in the middle. It has a little bit of an OCEAN’S 11 vibe to it, especially when George Clooney and Matt Damon were talking about how many men they had. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Check out the trailer below and see for yourself. MONUMENTS MEN stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban and Hugh Bonneville. George Clooney is also directing the film that hits theaters on December 18th.
The official MONUMENTS MEN synopsis: Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, The Monuments Men is an action-thriller focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.
