George Clooney flies through space in a brief tease of the Gravity trailer

George Clooney in Gravity

Every time I post a “trailer for a trailer”, I feel obligated to apologize profusely for it.  I despise this trend of releasing trailers for trailers more than any recent Hollywood trend in memory.  But in Hollywood’s defense, I remember ET doing this kind of thing more than 20 years ago (which is when I last watched ET).  So I guess this isn’t really anything new for them.  Another reason to be moderately interested in this particular teaser of a trailer is that it’s the first footage from Alfonso Cuaron’s GRAVITY, which has been on a bit of a roller coaster ride through development.  Robert Downey Jr. was attached for the longest time, but then he dropped out, only to be replaced by George Clooney.  Sandra Bullock on the other hand has stayed with the project through the turmoil and she and George Clooney are the only two stars in the film.

The official synopsis for GRAVITY: Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Warner Bros. has put a lot of money into the film that’s being heralded as the next “AVATAR” for its special effects and if you read the synopsis below, you can see why this is such a gamble for them.  GRAVITY is set to hit theaters on October 3rd while the first trailer is set to hit on May 8th.  And even though it’s not on the Flix 66 video player, I’ll apologize anyway for the 30 second commercial ET is going to make you watch for the barely 10 second preview.
