Gravity and 12 Years A Slave tie for best picture at the PGA Awards
Maybe we were too quick to give 12 YEARS A SLAVE the Best Picture Academy Award. In an unprecedented move, GRAVITY and 12 YEARS A SLAVE tied for best picture at the Producers Guild awards last night. Of all the critic’s awards and other award shows, the PGA is really the best predictor of who will take home the golden statue at the Oscars. The best picture winner at the PGA has gone on to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards 17 total times and the last 6. So if you normally look to the PGA to make your Oscar predictions for your office pool, you’re kind of out of luck this year.
With wins for GRAVITY and 12 YEARS A SLAVE at the PGA and AMERICAN HUSTLE winning at the Screen Actor’s Guild, it looks like it’s a three way Oscar race. Until now, I was giving the edge to 12 YEARS A SLAVE, but since it hasn’t been winning as many acting or directing awards as I thought it would, I’m not so sure it’s the frontrunner anymore. So it looks like the Academy Awards might be worth watching after all. Check out the full list of PGA winners below.
