Greg Mottola to direct Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman in the romantic comedy Important Artifacts

It seems like a long time ago now, but just over a year ago, Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman picked up the rights to Leanne Shapton’s book ‘Important Artifacts and Personal Property From the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion and Jewelry’.  Yes, that’s the complete title.  Today we learn that Greg Mottola (SUPERBAD) has signed on to direct the high-profile romantic comedy with the same two A-listers still attached to star.  The film is a fictional account of Shapton’s estate auction of the four-year romance between an older photographer and the younger food columnist.

Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman together in a romantic comedy seems odd to me at first, but the premise looks like it’s set up to account for the age difference.  I like the addition of Mottola and he should be able to make it into something more than a standard rom-com.
