Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim releases a viral campaign video
It seems like a lot of studios these days are launching sites to start up viral campaigns for their big summer blockbuster movies and Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming PACIFIC RIM is no different. As you can see below the first in what will probably be a long line of videos is a Test of the Kaiju Emergency Alert System that shows the logo of Kaiju, as well as a letter that is supposed to get you all hyped up about the “menace no nation can ignore”. This viral campaign doesn’t do anything for me and I’d really like to know if they actually work for the studios and if there have ever been any successful film viral campaigns. I know the big one last year was for DREDD 3D and that film did pretty awful at the box office, so if anyone out there is a fan of this marketing approach and thinks it works well then please let me know.
Directed by Guillermo del Toro, PACIFIC RIM follows an alien-type invasion where giant robots manned by humans have to protect the planet. PACIFIC RIM stars: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman. PACIFIC RIM will hit theaters on July 12, 2013.
