Guillermo del Toro to develop The Haunted Mansion

Posted by: Nathan Swank

During Comic-Con, Walt Disney Pictures introduced Guillermo del Toro, who we have not heard from since his departure from THE HOBBIT, as the developer of a film version of their popular amusement park ride THE HAUNTED MANSION. Yes, a film version was made and forgotten back in 2003. But del Toro has confirmed that his version will be scary and not a comedy staring Eddie Murphy. He added:

“Dark imagery is an integral part of the Walt Disney legacy. After all, Disney himself was the father of some really chilling moments and characters – think Chernabog from Fantasia or Maleficent as the Dragon or the Evil Queen in Snow White,” said del Toro. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of my own adaptation of the original theme park attraction Walt envisioned and that remains- for me- the most desirable piece of real
estate in the whole world!”

I couldn’t agree with del Toro more. Old school Disney has created some scary stuff and I for one am excited to see such a creative director at the helm of one my favorite rides.
