Guy Ritchie wants Brad Pitt to star in his GM financed Cannonball Run remake

Sometimes news comes out that no matter how hard you try, you just can’t understand it. Such is the case with news popping up today that American automaker General Motors is set to provide financing to the planned CANNONBALL RUN remake. Guy Ritchie is attached to direct the film, which would take on the 1981 Burt Reynolds film about a highly illegal cross country, no holds barred race from coast to coast. Of course, the movie played more to the slapstick side of things and featured cameos from a number of famous celebrities. Is a remake necessary? Absolutely not, but that’s never stopped Hollywood before, so why should it now?
If everyone gets their way, then Guy Ritchie will direct the film with financing from GM and distribution from Warner Brothers. And of course, Ritchie wants Brad Pitt to star in the lead role. Pitt and Ritchie previously worked together on SNATCH and have been trying to put something else together for a while. Although I can’t imagine it’s going to be a remake of CANNONBALL RUN. And I wouldn’t get too excited since Pitt is linked with numerous projects at the moment. With financing all but set, expect an official casting announcement soon.
