Halle Berry may play Aretha Franklin in biopic

It was only a matter of time before Hollywood made a biopic of Aretha Franklin and it looks like that time has come. Surely the idea has been tossed around tinsel town for who knows how long, but the diva has most likely but the kibosh on it. Now, after recent health troubles, Ms. Franklin has finally given her blessing to a project. Here’s what she has said:
For the last four years, we’ve been talking about that and I have had a number of offers but unfortunately, they were not good offers. Now, we have something on the table. They have all of the financing on one project and the second project, he’s in the process of writing things for me to approve on the tele-film.
Not only has she approved the advancement of the film, but she has said that she would like Halle Berry to play an older version of herself. The film will be based on Franklin’s memoir entitled Aretha: From These Roots. Aside from Halle Berry, other actors Ms. Franklin would like to be involved with the film are Denzel Washington (to play Franklin’s father) as well as Terrence Howard (to portray Smoky Robinson) The actors have been casually approached and are willing to negotiate when the time comes.
