Han Solo and Boba Fett will get their own Star Wars movies
Yesterday we heard the rumor that Yoda would get his own standalone movie and then later in the day, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that there were, in fact, standalone movies in the works for various Star Wars characters. But he was light on specifics and so we were left to wonder which characters might get the feature film treatment. Well, today, EW has broken the news that two of the most popular Star Wars characters in Han Solo and Boba Fett will be the first characters to get their own movies.
The Han Solo movie will apparently take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and will follow a young Han Solo, but will be “framed” by Harrison Ford, reprising the role he made famous. Go ahead and let the speculation begin as to how he’s going to tell the story, but I picture him getting drunk with Lando Calrissian at a bar and telling stories about his glory days. The Boba Fett movie will either take place between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back or between Empire and Return of the Jedi. Not much else is known about the Fett movie, but this presumably means he’ll survive the Sarlaac pit since I’m sure Disney will want to leave themselves enough room for a sequel.
Elaborating on established characters is a risky move, but it’s also one that could work out. I’ve read maybe 20 of the Star Wars books and the most entertaining were the trio that focused on a young Han Solo. I doubt those will be the basis of the movie(s), but it gives me hope that a Han Solo movie could be done well. As for Boba Fett, I think focusing on him will remove some of the mystery to the character, but I guess it all depends on how they handle it.
