Harold Ramis: 1944 – 2014
Actor and director Harold Ramis passed away early this morning after suffering from complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis. Harold Ramis had been suffering from the rare disease since 2010. Ramis is perhaps best known for playing Dr. Egon Spengler in the GHOSTBUSTERS films, but also has a very impressive resume directing films such as CADDYSHACK, NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION, ANAYLZE THIS and one of my all time favorites, GROUNDHOG DAY.
There has been a lot of talk the last several years about a third GHOSTBUSTERS film, but I can’t imagine one without Harold Ramis involved. Bill Murray received a lot of the attention for the films, but Ramis’s Egon was the glue that held them together. Ramis was an underrated actor and director, and got his start acting on SCTV back in the 70’s, then got his big break in movies as Russell Ziskey in STRIPES. Of course, his first directorial effort was the beloved CADDYSHACK. Harold Ramis will definitely be missed. (ABC News)
