Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 breaks several weekend box office records

The final installment to the Harry Potter series (read our review: HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2) is now one of the biggest movies of all time. Already claiming the record for highest midnight gross with $43.5 million and then shattering the single day box office record total with $92.1 million, it’s now going to easily break THE DARK KNIGHT’s three day record of $158.4 million by bringing in well over $163 million in three days. Now Warner Brothers needs to dream a little bigger and start thinking about whether or not HPATDH:P2 can break the all time box office gross set by AVATAR, which means it will have to bring in more than $760 million. Although that seems far away now, I wouldn’t rule it out as this is the last time fans can see Harry Potter on the big screen and so it should do well with multiple viewings.
Next weekend should be an interesting one as Harry Potter mania will take on the highly anticipated CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Common sense would say that Captain should win the box office, but with Potter-mania as high as it is, I’m thinking it’s going to be a close weekend. I’m sure the folks at Paramount are wishing they would have released their film a few weeks earlier. Note: the numbers below will be updated as they become final.
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 $163m
2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon $23.5m
3. Horrible Bosses $17.5m
4. Zookeeper $12.5m
5. Cars 2 $8.2m
6. Winnie the Pooh $7.5m
7. Bad Teacher $5m
8. Larry Crowne $2.7m
9. Super 8 $1.8m
10. Midnight in Paris $1.8m
