Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced that the horror thriller VANISHING ON 7TH STREET, starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo, will be released on Blu-ray May 17, 2011. The film follows a small group of individuals who survive a massive power outage in Detroit only to discover they are alone in the city. The film was directed by Brad Anderson and the film premiered at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival. It has been released in theaters stateside but in a very limited capacity, and it was available on Video On Demand (VOD) in January (for a limited time).

I’m sure this is obvious, but when a film doesn’t make it into the theaters (on a massive scale) and goes directly to VOD or Blu-ray/DVD, that usually means it’s pretty bad. It could be the acting (most likely), or the script (very good possibility) and even the directing (although Anderson did give us THE MACHINIST, which was pretty darn good), whatever the case may be this does not bode well for VANISHING ON 7TH STREET.
