Honeymoon with Harry dead in the water after Robert De Niro leaves film

This week Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro will be featured together in the film LIMITLESS, about a guy who takes a drug which expands the use of his brain. Cooper and De Niro were set to do another film, HONEYMOON WITH HARRY which is a script originally written by Paul Haggis (it went through a rewrite with Jenny Lumet) and was going to be directed by Jonathan Demme. The film follows an alcoholic and womanizing man (Cooper) who falls in love with a woman that convinces him to change his ways. When she is tragically killed right before their wedding, Cooper’s character decides to go on their honeymoon where he ends up meeting with her father, to be played by De Niro. Everything was set to go forward until De Niro decided that he no longer wanted to be part of the project. Demme tried to convince Cooper to continue on, but Cooper didn’t want to be disloyal to his co-star and was unable to reconcile the director and actor, so Demme walked too. There is a chance that this film will go forward again sometime in the future, but right now it’s dead in the water.
It’s actually too bad that De Niro backed out, he’s not really churning out a lot of box office gems and another pairing with the currently hot Cooper would have guaranteed him a decent box office gross.
