Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal star in the first Prisoners trailer
When Hugh Jackman isn’t flexing his claws as Wolverine, he’s out there trying to prove he’s a good actor. Although he hasn’t found a ton of success without his adamantium skeleton, he’s usually guaranteed to turn in a good performance. It looks like he has another powerful film coming up starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in PRISONERS. As I was watching the first trailer for the suspense drama, I found myself bored. It looked like your typical dark crime drama until that very last scene. The image of the face behind the wall, covered in dirt, really got to me and in a flash, PRISONERS went from a ho-hum drama to something I want to see on opening day. The film has been in the works for a while, thanks in large part to the celebrated black list script from Aaron Guzikowski. PRISONERS stars Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Melissa Leo, Wayne Duvall and Paul Dano. The Denis Villeneuve directed film hits theaters on September 20th.
PRISONERS official synopsis: Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman) is facing every parent’s worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect’s release. Knowing his child’s life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, he may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?
