Hugh Jackman and James Mangold are looking to return for a Wolverine sequel
Hugh Jackman will be playing Wolverine until he can’t walk anymore, so his involvement with a sequel to this summer’s THE WOLVERINE shouldn’t come as a surprise. But I’m a little surprised that director James Mangold is returning. Sure, THE WOLVERINE was much better than X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, but I figured Fox would want a new director with a new style. But according to Deadline, Hugh Jackman and James Mangold are in final negotiations to return for a sequel.
It seems Fox is getting smart about their Marvel properties and with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, I think we’ll have the launch of a Disney-Marvel-like universe. The first step is to get some continuity, so bringing Mangold back makes sense in that regard. But I think most fans would agree that THE WOLVERINE wasn’t the ultimate Wolverine movie we were hoping for and we’re still waiting for Hugh Jackman to star in a great Wolverine movie before he hangs up the claws for good.
