Hugh Jackman joins Neil Blomkamp's Chappie

Hugh Jackman

Everyone’s favorite mutant, Hugh Jackman, is once again taking on another challenging and interesting role, this time for science fiction guru Neil Blomkamp.  Blomkamp has been wanting to make a feature length version of his short film TETRA VAAL for some time now and after the success of DISTRICT 9 and ELYSIUM, it seems the time is finally right.  The theatrical version will be called CHAPPIE and he’s lined up one of the biggest names in movies to take on a small part in the film.

The film is set in a futuristic world where two gangsters team up to steal a robot they intend to program to do bad things.  Not much is known about who Hugh Jackman will be playing, but it’s generally believed he’ll be playing a CEO that gets caught on the bad side of the gangsters.  So far, we do know that Dev Patel will be in the lead role, with South African rappers Ninja and Yolandi Visser of the hip-hop group ‘Die Antwoord’ playing the kidnapping gangsters.  Sharlto Copely will provide the voice of the robot.  Filming on the sci-fi comedy will start early next year.
