Hugh Jackman wants to make The Wolverine an R-rated action film

If there’s one mainstream comic book movie that could have success with an R-rating, it’s a Wolverine movie. The Punisher doesn’t have the public appeal and it wouldn’t make sense for characters like Superman, Iron Man or Spider-Man to go with an R-rating (although it would be great if they did). So reading that Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold are toying with the idea of making THE WOLVERINE and R-rated film comes as exciting news. Do I think it would ever actually happen? No. Fox would have a hissy fit about excluding kids from their superhero film. He mentions that they could also do two versions of the film, one of them being R. The R-rated version would presumably find its way to the eventual Blu-ray. Regarding the idea of making an R-rated Wolvie, Jackman said:
“There’s such great temptation to make an R-rated Wolverine. I’ve always felt that. I know a lot of fans would like that. I totally get it. If there was ever a superhero that was going to be R-rated, it’s Wolverine. So my thing is, which [director] James Mangold and I talked about, is let’s not put it off the table. There’s even a talk of us doing two versions, as in finding a way for us to do both as you shoot it, which could be really cool.”
So there you have it; at least there’s a slight chance we could get a blood and guts, vulgar Wolverine at some point in the future.
