Ian Holm will join Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen in returning to Middle Earth for The Hobbit

The original Bilbo Baggins (or “OBB” as his friends call him) himself, Ian Holm, will in fact be returning to Middle Earth to reprise his role as the elder Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT.  At this point in the casting news, I think anyone who appeared in any of the LORD OF THE RINGS films should expect to get call from Peter Jackson to reprise their role in the prequels.  It seems it’s going to be one giant reunion.  As you already know, Martin Freeman will be playing the younger Bilbo and I would presume that Ian wouldn’t step in until the end of the second part.

So far, Jackson has lined up Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, Cate Blanchett, William Kircher, Saoirse Ronan, Elijah Wood and Bret McKenzie to either join or reprise roles in THE HOBBIT.  He’s already published his first set video and production is well under way.
