Iko Uwais and other stars from The Raid are rumored for Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
Rumors around STAR WARS: EPISODE VII – THE FORCE AWAKENS are a dime a dozen, especially concerning plot points, but this is one rumor that’s worth reporting. Twitch is claiming that Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman are set to appear in the new Star Wars film. Iko Uwais, of course, played Rama in both films while Ruhian played Mad Dog in the first film (the guy Rama and his brother had to fight together) and Prakoso in the second. Rahman was The Assassin in THE RAID 2, who faced Rama in the kitchen during the finale.
Again, these are just rumors and we shouldn’t get too excited until we get official confirmation, but if it proves to be true, we’re in for a treat. One of the biggest complaints about the prequels was the reliance on CGI and how that negatively impacted some of the fight scenes. I remember Samuel L. Jackson saying in an interview that during the arena battle in Attack of the Clones, the only direction George Lucas gave them was to just “swing your lightsabers around and we’ll put the effects in later”. The inclusion of this trio from THE RAID makes me believe J.J. Abrams will do a better job with the fight scene directing.
