Inception holds back Salt while Twilight: Eclipse drops out of the top five at the box office

The magnificent INCEPTION made it two weekends in a row by holding off Angelina Jolie and SALT. I have to admit that I was a little worried that INCEPTION wouldn’t be received well by the masses, but I’m extremely happy I’m wrong. Let’s hope the success of the film leads to bigger and better things for Hollywood. I’m impressed with SALT, even if the movie was average. It’s nice to see a female action star carry a movie like this. I can say I’m not surprised about the fall of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE. The film fell out of the top five and may not even crack the top ten next weekend.
Next week sees the release of DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS and normally I’d say INCEPTION should have no problem making it three weekends in a row. But there is a massive void of summer comedies this year and audiences might be clamoring for something funny at the theater. I don’t think Schmucks looks very funny, but Carell and Rudd have been able to carry movies before. If Schmucks doesn’t do it, then THE OTHER GUYS should take the top spot the following weekend.
1. Inception $43.5 million
2. Salt $36.5 million
3. Despicable Me $21.4 million
4. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice $9.7 million
5. Toy Story 3 $9 million
6. Ramona and Beezus $8 million
7. Grown Ups $7.5 million
8. Twilight Saga: Eclipse $7 million
9. The Last Airbender $4.5 million
10. Predators $2.6 million
