Inception tops Despicable Me and Twilight: Eclipse at the box office

It would have been one of the great tragedies of cinema if INCEPTION wasn’t number one at the box office this weekend. But thankfully, it easily took the top spot with $60.4 million. Even though that’s a healthy number, I’m a little disappointed by it. It was such an incredible movie and hopefully, the good word of mouth will spread and the film will continue to go strong for the next several weeks. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE continued its heavy fall, only pulling in $13.5 million. I know big films like that drop hard after their first weekend, but I really thought the Twi-hards would keep it going at least a couple of weeks. As for THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE, is anyone really shocked it bombed? The previews looked horrible.
Next week sees Angelina Jolie back in action in the super-spy thriller SALT and the classic children’s book adaptation RAMONA AND BEEZUS. I’m thinking INCEPTION will have another week at the top, but you never know how audiences will react to Angelina Jolie.
1) Inception $60.4 million
