Is Michael Fassbender the new Steve Jobs?
Another day, another Steve Jobs biopic casting rumor. For the longest time, Leonardo DiCaprio was going to play the Apple founder, then he dropped out and Christian Bale took over. Well, that didn’t work out too well as the actor unceremoniously dropped out of Danny Boyle’s film after most of us thought it was a done deal. That threw Boyle and company into a tailspin to try and find a replacement and it looks like they might have outdone themselves if they can pull it off. Variety is reporting that Michael Fassbender is in talks to play Steve Jobs for Danny Boyle, although no deal has been reached at this point.
So what does all of this mean? Absolutely nothing at this point. But it does indicate that the Aaron Sorkin script is still attracting A-list talent. I was concerned that after Bale left the project, other A-listers would be scared off. But Fassbender is one of the best actors working today, so if Danny Boyle can convince him to take the role, the film could get a real boost. But as great as Michael Fassbender is, is he really the right choice to play Steve Jobs? I’m not so sure, but I would like the chance to find out.
