It looks like True Grit will finally beat Little Fockers at the box office

They’ve been fighting for the past few weekends, but it looks like TRUE GRIT finally managed to overtake LITTLE FOCKERS at the box office.  I’m personally surprised that the film has managed to have this much staying power, but I’m glad it has proven to be a stronger film than Fockers.  As nice as it is, it should be noted that this is one of the weakest weekends of the year with only the Nicolas Cage film SEASON OF THE WITCH and the country music film COUNTRY STRONG opening up this week.  Cage’s latest film managed a third place finish, which really isn’t bad considering it wasn’t even screened for critics.  America continues to hope Nic Cage can get out of that IRS debt so he can go back to choosing roles based on quality and not on how much they pay him.

Next week is a different story as we see the opening of THE DILEMMA and THE GREEN HORNET.  I’m intrigued by Hornet, but something about THE DILEMMA doesn’t sit right with me.  I think the trailers have been horrible and if the movie is funny, how come we haven’t seen any funny parts in the previews and commercials?  Note: The numbers below are estimates and will be updated as they become final.

Jeff Bridges in True Grit

1. True Grit $14.7m

2. Little Fockers $13.8m

3. Season of the Witch $10m

4. Tron: Legacy $8m

5. Country Strong $7.5m

6. Black Swan $7.5m

7. The Fighter $6.5m

8. The King’s Speech $5.5m

9. Yogi Bear $5.2m

10. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader $4.7m
