J.J. Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro to play the villain in his Star Trek sequel

Precious little is known about J.J. Abrams‘ follow up to his STAR TREK film, but he supposedly met with Benicio Del Toro late last week and offered him the chance to play the villain in the anticipated sequel. In fact, things are so hush-hush on the film that Abrams didn’t even reveal exactly who or what the villain will be to Del Toro. But I don’t know how anyone that has seen the original Star Trek films and knows who Del Toro is can’t immediately jump to the conclusion that Del Toro would play some version of Kahn, played famously by Ricardo Montalban in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KAHN. Not only does Del Toro look the part, but in the original film, many references were made to the younger years between Kirk and Kahn.
But at this point, it’s all speculation and Del Toro’s villain could have some sort of relation to Nero from Abrams’ first Star Trek film. Either way, things are going to have to get hammered down pretty quickly as production is set to begin in January. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Simon Pegg are all expected to return.
