J.J. Abrams will direct Star Wars: Episode VII

J.J. Abrams

Yeah, you read that headline correctly!  I’m still a little scared it’s a hoax, but according to basically every legitimate news source, J.J. Abrams will in fact be directing Star Wars: Episode VII, setting the media movie world and fanboys everywhere into a frenzy. Yes, we are aware that Abrams has already confirmed not to be directing from this juicy little quote back in November:

“Look, ‘Star Wars’ is one of my favorite movies of all time, I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series. I was never a big ‘Star Trek’ fan growing up, so for me, working on ‘Star Trek’ didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more than anyone to the next iterations of ‘Star Wars,’ but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!”

But apparently Lucasfilm Chief Kathleen Kennedy used the old Jedi Mind Trick on Mr. Abrams to have him reconsider.  For the record, he was one of our top choices among ten directors that should take on Star Wars, but probably won’t (click the link to read the list). The man gave us the mind tripping “Lost” and quite possibly the best reboot in history with STAR TREK.  The sequel STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will be out this summer. Couple J.J. Abrams with screenwriter Michael Arndt (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, TOY STORY 3, upcoming THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE) and we have a recipe that seems brought on by the force. Disney plans on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII to be released by 2015. (The Wrap)
