Jack Black names new baby panda Po after character in Kung Fu Panda 2

Zoo Atlanta just welcomed a new giant panda cub and of all the people in Hollywood that could have named the little guy, they picked Jack Black. I guess it’s an obvious choice since DreamWorks Animation is using this as a cross promotion for their upcoming sequel KUNG FU PANDA 2, but still. The president and CEO, Raymond B. King, of Zoo Atlanta made this statement:

Today’s announcement is the beginning of an amazing alliance between Zoo Atlanta and DreamWorks Animation. Our organizations share a commitment to giant panda conservation, particularly at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. We are proud and honored to share this moment with Jack Black, who has already helped to bring the importance of saving this species to a new generation of conservationists.

I’m all for animal conservation and think it’s great that DreamWorks Animation is helping Zoo Atlanta out, plus baby pandas are so cute and after a couple of years no one will remember KUNG FU PANDA 2 anyways. KUNG FU PANDA 2 will be released in theaters on May 26, 2011. The photo below is the new bundle of joy, Po.
