Jackass 3D dominates Red at the Box Office

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Last week I questioned whether Johnny Knoxville and company could bring in an audience with another round of stupid Jackass stunts and this weekend I got my answer.  Somehow, the answer is a resounding “yes” because JACKASS 3D (watch the trailer) managed to bring in almost $50 million over the past weekend, shocking critics and experts alike.  I can’t believe that after all this time the series still has this much appeal to the general public.  I’m not sure if I should be impressed for the filmmakers or depressed for our society.  The other big film of the weekend was RED, which featured older stars performing various action stunts and it, too managed to pull in a decent haul at the box office.

Next week sees the release of Clint Eastwood’s HEREAFTER, which I think looks great.  But it also sees the release of SAW 3D, which looks absolutely horrible.  Unfortunately, I’m thinking the battle is going to be between SAW 3D and JACKASS 3D and at this rate, I’m not betting against JACKASS.
