Jackie Earle Haley joins Steven Spielberg's Lincoln

Jackie Earle Haley always gets cast in great films. I’m not sure that the remake of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET qualifies but he did get to play an iconic character. That movie was flat out not good.

Now Haley has been brought on board for Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN. Hayley will play Alexander Stephens who was the vice president of the Confederate States during the Civil War and a nemesis of Lincoln’s slavery reform agenda. He is remembered for an infamous speech in which he said that slavery was the “natural condition of blacks and the cornerstone of the Confederacy.” LINCOLN will focus on the last four months of the president’s life.

The film will begin production this fall and is set to possibly release in 2012. The cast that Spielberg has assembled is great. Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will star.
