Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo join Nightcrawler for director Dan Gilroy
For those of you hoping that your favorite X-Men character was going to get his own movie, I’m sorry to disappoint you. As much as I want to see the German acrobat back on the big screen, this news is about a different NIGHTCRAWLER all together. In this film, NIGHTCRAWLER is about a determined man that gets caught up in the nighttime crime journalism world of Los Angeles. The film will be directed by Dan Gilroy, who also wrote the script. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because Dan’s brother is Tony Gilroy, he of the Bourne franchise fame. But Dan has written quite a few films himself, including TWO FOR THE MONEY and REAL STEEL.
Dan’s keeping NIGHTCRAWLER in the family by also casting his wife, Rene Russo, producing with Tony and turning editing duties over to John Gilroy. But I guess none of the Gilroys are lead actors, so they’ve cast Jake Gyllenhaal as their leading man. Filming is set to start in October. (The Wrap)
