Jake Gyllenhaal gets crazy in the new red band Nightcrawler trailer
As good as NIGHTCRAWLER looks, I fear that it’s falling somewhere between Oscar movie and action thriller territory and traditionally, movies that don’t choose sides usually go unseen and unrecognized during awards season. From the looks of it, that’s going to be a shame because it seems like Jake Gyllenhaal gave this role everything he had and the results could be fantastic. The film is from first time director Dan Gilroy, who previously wrote THE BOURNE LEGACY and REAL STEEL. And yeah, those aren’t exactly the strongest credits, so if there’s a week link in the film, it might be Gilroy. But you can check it out for yourself next Friday. In the meantime, take a look at the new red band trailer below.
The official synopsis for NIGHTCRAWLER: Nightcrawler is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism. Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling — where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents. Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou thrives. In the breakneck, ceaseless search for footage, he becomes the star of his own story. NIGHTCRAWLER stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Bill Paxton and Riz Ahmad. The Dan Gilroy directed film hits theaters on October 31st.
