Jake Gyllenhaal heads South for Mississippi Grind
Jake Gyllenhaal‘s next film END OF WATCH hits theaters next month, but the actor seems to have taken a break in promoting the movie to sign on for another role. Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in the drama MISSISSIPPI GRIND from directors Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (HALF NELSON, IT’S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY) who also wrote the screenplay. You may recall that HALF NELSON did wonders for Ryan Gosling’s career so hopefully MISSISSIPPI GRIND will have the same effect on Jake Gyllenhaal’s.
MISSISSIPPI GRIND follows an older gambler who’s hit a bit of a rough patch and gets together with Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, a gambling addict, in order to try and change his future luck. The two unlikely pair decide to go on a road trip across the South in hopes of winning back what they have lost at the tables. No word on who would play the older gambler but if Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden land a big name this could be one of those films we see next year during Oscar season. (THR)
