James Franco will be Oz, the Great and Powerful

James Franco‘s apparent quest to take over Hollywood by attaching himself to as many projects as possible continues. Today we learn that he is getting ready to close the deal with Disney and star in the Sam Raimi directed film OZ, THE GREAT AND POWERFUL. The film will be a prequel to the classic WIZARD OF OZ, and follows our hero with a ridiculously long name, Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmanuel Ambroise Digg (just call him Oz) who is a magician in a circus who ends up getting caught in a tornado that takes him to the Technicolor dreamland of Oz. There he meets the two witches who run the place and one of them he ends up falling for, Mila Kunis is still circling that role.

Apparently aside from landing a big named star like Franco, this film will be getting a budget of $200 million.  That’s a lot of money for any film (that’s what INCEPTION’s budget was) so expect to see a lot of special effects. No official word on when this will be released, but probably sometime in 2012 with production to begin this summer.
