James Gandolfini: 1961 – 2013
Actor James Gandolfini passed away today while vacationing in Italy after suffering a stroke. He was 51 years old. Gandolfini is best known for his career defining role as Tony Soprano in HBO’s ‘The Sopranos’. It would be hard to come up with an actor more closely associated with a role than Gandolfini with Tony Soprano and the actor picked up three Emmy’s for his work as the conflicted, brutal, humorous and charming mobster. James Gandolfini got his star playing tough guys and henchmen, breaking out in the Tony Scott directed and Quentin Tarantino written TRUE ROMANCE, but he’ll always be thought of as Tony Soprano.
On a personal note, I’ve always been a fan of James Gandolfini and even if I didn’t always enjoy his movies, I always enjoyed his performance. But no matter what kind of role he was taking on, you could always see a little bit of Tony Soprano come out, proving just how incredible he was as that character. It can be argued that ‘The Sopranos’ paved the way fr many of the HBO dramas we love today and I would make the argument that ‘The Sopranos’ was great thanks in large part to James Gandolfini. He does have ANIMAL RESCUE coming up, with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace, which will mark his last film.
