Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz star in the first Annie trailer
Let’s get past the notion that we all hate remakes and admit to ourselves that the original ANNIE, although beloved by some, doesn’t hold up well today. I tried watching it a couple of years ago and was surprised by how bad it was. So even though no movie needs to be remade, I’m not going to complain about ANNIE because I think Will Smith and Jay-Z can do better. You can watch the first trailer for their remake below and although I’m not sold that young Quvenzhané Wallis has the lungs for the title role, I think the real low point is Cameron Diaz. Maybe my underlying dislike of her is boiling to the surface, but she annoyed me the entire trailer. Check it out below and see for yourself. ANNIE stars Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diaz, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and David Zayas. The Will Gluck directed film hits theaters on Christmas Day.
Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they’d be back for her someday, it’s been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.
