Jason Statham is officially joining Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in Fast and Furious 7

Before work started on FAST AND FURIOUS 6, it was rumored that Jason Statham would be joining the mix of buff action heroes. But something went askew and supposedly, Jason Statham turned the role down and life moved on. Well, either Jason Statham realized he can’t carry his own movie or Universal ponied up some more dough because now it looks like he’s going to be appearing in FAST AND FURIOUS 7, which has already started production. Michelle Rodriguez recently told DesdeHollywood about the casting, saying “Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, when you see these guys in a room you know they belong together […] You can see in their eyes that they have gone through a lot […] I applaud Universal for getting him on-board!”
So assuming Michelle Rodriguez knows what she’s talking about, FAST AND FURIOUS 7 will be THE EXPENDABLES of car racing movies. The question remains as to what role Jason Statham will play, but given the British accent and the fact that the villain in FAST AND FURIOUS 6 (Luke Evans) is also British, I’m going to guess they’ll have some connection. And supposedly, the villain for the seventh film is spoiled in the sixth, so I’m guessing all of this speculation will be a moot point in a couple of weeks.
Directed by Justin Lin, FAST AND FURIOUS 6 stars: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Gina Curano, Luke Evans, Gal Gadot and Michelle Rodriquez. The film will hit theaters on May 24th, 2013.
