Jennifer Garner really likes butter in a new photo from Butter

One of the biggest wildcards this Oscar season is the quirky, oddball “comedy” BUTTER from the Weinstein Co. It gets respect right off the bat because it’s a film The Weinsteins will be backing during awards season, but it has such a strange premise that it’s hard to imagine it doing well at the box office. You can read the official synopsis at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) website, but essentially, it’s about a small town woman that takes up butter carving and then gets very competitive when she enters a contest. The film stars Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene and newcomer Yara Shahidi. Jim Field Smith (who previously directed SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE) is directing the film from a script by Jason A. Mcallef.
The film promises to be more than just a simple comedy and will have undertones of culture clashes, racism, politics and socioeconomic differences. It sounds like a lot to wrap around a butter carving contest. The film will have a limited release later this fall in time for awards season.
