Jennifer Lawrence confirmed to play Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games

It feels like we’ve been talking about Jennifer Lawrence and THE HUNGER GAMES forever but it’s actually only been less than two months since this rumor has been out in the open. So I’m happy to report that Ms. Lawrence has officially landed the role of Katniss Everdeen in the trilogy THE HUNGER GAMES. So now, we shall move onto the seemingly never ending news about casting for the male lead, Peeta Mellark. Alex Pettyfer’s name has been floating around for about as long as Lawrence’s, but he’s now got some competition in Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) and Hunter Parrish (WEEDS and IT’S COMPLICATED). I actually think that with all the bad press that has been surrounding Pettyfer, he may lose this part if he even wants it.
Gary Ross will take on directing duties for THE HUNGER GAMES which will should start shooting sometime this summer as it has a tentative release date of March 23, 2012.
