Jennifer Lawrence, Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin battle it out for Hunger Games role

Director Gary Ross has a really tough decision ahead of him. He is taking on the adaptation of the wildly popular Suzanne Collins series THE HUNGER GAMES, and he has three actresses who could easily hold their own in the running. The story follows a dystopian society, where the United States is broken down into Districts and every so often someone is chosen from each District to compete in a gladiator-type game that is televised. It’s like a younger version of THE RUNNING MAN combined with BATTLE ROYALE. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, must compete for District 12 to the death, although I don’t know how graphic these battles are since this is a teen book. Right now three great young actresses are up for the role of Everdeen: Jennifer Lawrence (WINTER’S BONE), Hailee Steinfeld (TRUE GRIT) and Abigail Breslin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE). Rumors are floating around that Lawrence maybe the front runner, but she’s also up for the female lead in THE SEVENTH SON, which is also a potential franchise that will star Jeff Bridges and possibly Alex Pettyfer. So really no one knows who will win this first battle of The Hunger Games, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
