Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton square off in a new image from The Bourne Legacy
The last time I posted a story about Jeremy Renner and THE BOURNE LEGACY, I had a couple people complain that I was being too negative about Jeremy Renner taking over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon and that I should give the film a chance before I slap it down. So with that in mind, I’m going to be more open minded about the reboot/sequel and wait until I see the film before I say anything else negative about it. So on a positive note, today we get our first look at Edward Norton in the film, squaring off with a very angry looking Jeremy Renner. We also get a look at a scruffy Jeremy Renner about to take out an unsuspecting bad guy.
On a related note, director Tony Gilroy spoke with MTV about the film and addressed some comparisons with his Bourne film and the previous three. Most notably, he talks about the use of shaky cam, which Paul Greengrass used to nauseating effect. Gilroy said: “The worst thing that could have been done would be to just slavishly follow some cookie-cutter pattern of visual style and storytelling style. It’s a bigger movie in the terms of the journey of it and the scale of it and the amount of stories in it and where it’s going.” He also talks about how his film fits into the Bourne universe, but doesn’t erase anything that’s been done.
THE BOURNE LEGACY stars Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, Oscar Isaac, Stacy Keach, Scott Glenn David Strathairn and Albert Finney. The Tony Gilroy directed film hits theaters on August 3rd. Will Jeremy Renner be able to do as good of a job as Matt Damon? Probably not, but Jeremy Renner will add his own flare to the series and maybe he’ll be able to hold his own as an action star.
