Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton in new photos from The Bourne Legacy
When we were at our screening of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES yesterday, we saw a trailer for THE BOURNE LEGACY with Jeremy Renner. After the trailer was done, my wife leaned in and said she thought it looked better than all of Matt Damon’s Bourne films. I don’t think she’s ever said anything that has hurt me worse. But I point that out to you, only to admit that maybe I’m in the minority with the Bourne franchise. I’ve been against the idea of doing a parallel film without Matt Damon from the beginning and although the trailer looks okay, I still can’t get on board.
But I was more disturbed when producer Frank Marshall revealed in a recent interview that any future Bourne films would be focused on Alex Cross (Jeremy Renner) instead of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). He said “We’re gonna follow Jeremy’s character, everything else is wide open. That’s the great thing about this now. The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I’m sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens. Jeremy and Rachel”. Granted, that was the politically correct way of saying he’s going to move forward with Jeremy Renner, but only if THE BOURNE LEGACY is successful, but I don’t like where his head is at. We’ll have to wait and see how well the film does in theaters, but if I were an executive at Universal, I would start talking to Matt Damon now. I also like the idea of Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon possibly starring in a film together. I’m not sure how it would work, but it sounds like a decent idea.
THE BOURNE LEGACY stars Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen, Oscar Isaac, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn. The Tony Gilroy directed film hits theaters on August 3rd. (Playlist, ComingSoon)
