Jesse Eisenberg and Noah Taylor in the first images from Richard Ayoade's The Double
If you have limited exposure to actors, directors or movie titles, than director Richard Ayoade’s THE DOUBLE might be turn into a serious case of mistaken identity. Most Americans don’t know who Richard Ayoade is, other than his supporting comedic role in THE WATCH. But he’s actually an established comedian in England, starring in ‘The IT Crowd’, ‘The Mighty Boosh’ and several other shows. He also directed the indie dramedy SUBMARINE. Since the film is directed by a comedian, you might think THE DOUBLE is a slapstick comedy. Not so. It will have humor, but think more Wes Anderson and less Ace Ventura. Or, you might mistake this film for the 2011 film starring Richard Gere and Topher Grace. That would also be wrong, but if that film made you weary of all films titled ‘The Double’, I can hardly blame you.
But this film is an updated telling of the novella by Fyodor Dostoevsky and stars Jesse Eisenberg as a diplomat that slowly begins to go crazy when his doppelganger starts working in the same office. The script was written by Richard Ayoade and Avi Korine and also stars Noah Taylor, Mia Wasikowski, Rade Serbedzija, Yasmin Page and Wallace Shawn. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should hit theaters some time in 2013. (CinemaTeaser)
