Joaquin Phoenix should have looked the other way in the first Inherent Vice trailer
Finally. That’s really the overwhelming response I have to the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s INHERENT VICE (click the link to see all of the news about the film). But once the relief finally set in, I rewatched the trailer and my second thought was; wow. It’s nice to see Paul Thomas Anderson get back to the more light-hearted fare. Paul Thomas Anderson is, of course, a favorite of mine, but this trailer feels like an even zanier, more easy going version of BOOGIE NIGHTS, without all of the porn. But seriously, this looks like a blast and once again, Joaquin Phoenix just nails it. You can’t give out Oscars for trailers, but eventually, the Academy is going to have take notice about how incredible Phoenix is. So check out the trailer below and get ready for a busy holiday season at the movies.
Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Inherent Vice follows the crazy story of private eye Doc Sportello. When his ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin… well, easy for her to say. INHERENT VICE stars Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short and Jena Malone. The Paul Thomas Anderson directed film hits theaters on January 9th, with a limited December release to make it eligible for Oscars.
