Joaquin Phoenix looks to Philip Seymour Hoffman for guidance in new The Master trailer

Joaquin Phoenix in The Master trailer

Earlier today a teaser poster was released for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film THE MASTER and now we’re getting a really good second trailer. In it we see that Freddie Sutton (Joaquin Phoenix) is a lost, alcoholic soul searching for some kind of meaning in his life when he stumbles upon Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Dodd’s “religion” seems to fascinate Sutton for awhile, but doesn’t seem to hold his attention as well as Dodd’s wife Mary Sue (Amy Adams) would like. This trailer reveals a lot but is still vague enough to be intriguing. I’m eagerly anticipating this film and hope it makes a big splash in Hollywood and maybe even at the Academy Awards this year. Philip Seymour Hoffman will surely get some recognition for his portrayal of Lancaster Dodd.

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, THE MASTER stars: Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Laura Dern and Rami Malek. It opens in theaters on October 12th, 2012. Watch the trailer below.
