Joe Wright hopes to re-team with Kiera Knightley for Anna Karenina in the fall

Joe Wright’s next film HANNA starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett opens in theaters on April 8, 2011, but the director is thinking ahead to his next big project ANNA KARENINA. The film has been in the works for some time and the screenplay is all ready to go being written by Tom Stoppard. Previously, Keira Knightley was attached to play the lead character in the epic Russian love story, and although she’s not 100% confirmed, it looks like Wright really wants her on board, especially since they have previously worked together on ATONEMENT and PRIDE & PREJUDICE. Wright also mentions how he is going through some of the more technical aspects of the film, like deciding whether or not to have the aristocrats speak Russian or English (which is what they actually spoke during that time, while the peasants and serfs spoke Russian) and brushing up on his 18th century Russian society etiquette, you know normal stuff. Either way, this is quite a project to take on, but Wright is quite used to these period pieces, so adapting a 900+ page novel is nothing for him.
